Ciara Smyth


Ciara Smyth is a social worker by day, YA novelist by night and cat enthusiast 24/7.

Her second novel, Not My Problem, won the Waterstones Children’s Prize Older Readers category in 2022.

She is published by HarperCollins in the US and Andersen Press in the UK. Her first novel, lesbian rom com The Falling in Love Montage, was shortlisted for the An Post Irish Book Awards in 2020, and won the Junior Juries category of the KPMG Children’s Books Ireland Awards in 2021.

Ciara previously worked as a teacher and mental health trainer. She enjoys jigging (verb: to complete a jigsaw) and claims to enjoy yoga in order to cultivate a zen persona that is shattered approximately ten minutes after you meet her.

She is from the south of Ireland but has lived in Belfast for so long that her parents make fun of her Northern accent.
